Energy and environmental impact

The nuclear accident at the Fukushima power station in Japan is a recent example, on a worldwide scale, of the major environmental impact that industrial projects in the energy sector can have.

It shows the difficulty in accurately and fully assessing all the environmental risks throughout the lifespan of a project (from design to dismantling) and in delivering appropriate responses to those risks.

It also shows the importance of being able to comprehensively and completely analyse such impacts during a project's preliminary and design phases.

In order to bring its expertise to bear upon this major issue, ALIERYS, through its ALIERYS Research unit, has initiated a research programme the aim of which is to create project management tools ranging from design to dismantling of sensitive facilities, and which is able to assess the potential environmental risks and impacts from the preliminary phases of such projects.
